Stories | Teacher Japhet Piniel

Teacher PinielEnthusiastic, energetic Japhet Piniel has only four years of teaching experience. The last two years he has been at Ngateu Secondary School. When the Form I students at Ngateu were given a simple English language assessment, not one of them scored above 60 percent. Japhet said, "English is a struggle for my students, but I can't accept failure. I just have to keep trying."

His lesson on chemical warning signs included important vocabulary like toxic, explosive, flammable, and corrosive. He grouped his students to read and discuss specific text, and then jig-sawed them to share that information among different groups. He says that teaching was often an uphill battle until he started attending June seminars.

"May God bless the work that Mwangaza is doing," he concluded.
