Interview with Salome Lally
Salome Lally is a Senior Program Coordinator with Mwangaza. Below, she shares some of the highlights of her work with Mwangaza.
When did you first get involved with Mwangaza?
I attended my first teacher methodology training in 2001 when I was a teacher in one of the Lutheran schools in Arusha. From there I was involved in several Mwangaza seminars as a participant and later I was appointed to be one of the Mwangaza facilitators.
In 2009, I started working with Mwangaza as one of the Program Coordinators.
What is your favorite part of working for Mwangaza?
My favorite part of working with Mwangaza is working with girls and women during seminars. My passion is to support women and girls to have a healthy lifestyle. We support them with information related to their health, nutrition, and other aspects of life that affects them.
Another favorite part is the sense of working as a family. It’s become the unique culture of Mwangaza over the years. Travelling in different parts of Tanzania with my dedicated teammates Richard, John and our faithful driver Allan is a favorite part of working with Mwangaza.
How has non-violence changed your life?
Nonviolent communication impacted my life as a woman. I have learned how to identify my feelings and express my needs without causing conflicts or misunderstandings.
It also helps me to identify needs of others and have empathy, especially with the teachers and other education leaders we work with.
It also helps me to support girls and women in our programs to identify their needs, learn how to express their feelings, how to deal with emotions effectively and how to communicate effectively without hurting anyone.
Thank you, Salome!
I would like to thank the people who are supporting the work of Mwangaza. Through their support we are able to impact the lives of so many teachers, leaders, parents, youths and girls and women of Tanzania.
