Welcome Bishop Alpha Memorial School!

A group of Tanzanian teachers and Mwangaza staff celebrate their new partnership

Mwangaza staff and Bishop Alpha Memorial faculty celebrate the new partnership

A new school has joined Mwangaza! Bishop Alpha Memorial Secondary School is in the Moshi District. The school is run by the Anglican Church of Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro Diocese. The Bishop was impressed by the work Mwangaza is doing in schools and he invited the Mwangaza team to speak with school leadership about the program.

The school wants to address issues related to safety and the wellbeing of their students. Working with Mwangaza seemed like the perfect solution. To begin the partnership, Mwangaza staff conducted a five day Safe School Training with faculty members. They covered topics such as evaluating school culture, counseling, growth mindset, conflict transformation, nonviolent communication, and stress management. After the staff completed the training, Peace Club Coordinators were chosen to lead the Peace Club: Vivian Ezekiel, Mosses Lucas, and Flaviana Lagwen. Each school that works with Mwangaza has a Peace Club, an after school club where students learn about non-violence.

Bishop Alpha currently has 167 students and 12 teachers, plus 21 other faculty members. Mwangaza trains the entire faculty so that non-violence starts at the top. This positively affects school culture, empowering teachers and students to learn together.

Please join us in welcoming Bishop Alpha Memorial Secondary School!
